Alexa Trivia and Quiz Games: 490 Quizzes, TV Quiz Shows and More

By Josh6 min read

Trivia is what Alexa does best. Questions are spoken, answers are spoken, and nobody has to squint at a screen or hunt for a pen. All you need is a speaker and someone who's sure they know the capital of Australia.

Here are the best Alexa trivia and quiz games we know, from a skill with 490 quizzes to quick true or false games and the official TV quiz shows, with what to say to start each one.

Quiz Games: 490 Quizzes in 15 Categories

Quiz Games, from HUGO.FM, the makers of Mini Games, is the biggest quiz collection on this list. It has 490 multiple choice quizzes spread across 15 categories:

  • Sport: the biggest category, from the Olympic Games and Formula One to the Rugby World Cup.
  • Film & TV: including several rounds each on The Simpsons and Family Guy.
  • History, Geography and Science: Ancient Egypt, the Cold War, Capital Cities, Flags of Countries, Space and Astronomy and plenty more.
  • Music, The Arts and Pop Culture: One Hit Wonders, Famous Painters, Iconic Movie Quotes.
  • Food, Travel, Health, Beauty and Technology: from Spices and Herbs to Famous Landmarks and Gaming Consoles.
  • Games: Chess, Board Games, Poker and video games like Tekken.
  • Anything Goes: our favourite. Quizzes on pineapples, soup, types of cheese, yodelling and one-eyed creatures.

You choose a category, then a topic, and each quiz is five questions with three possible answers. Every quiz you finish earns Quiz Points for the leaderboard. It plays in English, French, Spanish, German and Italian, and it's free to enable, with a free quiz every day.

Say "Alexa, open Quiz Games".

Quiz Games Inside Mini Games

Mini Games has 45 games in one skill, and several of them are quizzes with a twist.

Beat the Buzzer

Beat the Buzzer gives you five true or false questions, and one wrong answer gets you buzzed out. There's a new daily quiz every day, plus six categories to choose from: Geography, History, Sports, Pop Culture, Movies and TV, and Politics. After each answer you get a quick fact, so you learn something even when you're wrong. Finish a quiz to earn trophies and climb the leaderboard. Say "Alexa, open Beat the Buzzer".

Leaning Tower of Pizza

True or false, but backwards. In Leaning Tower of Pizza you play Pinocchio, and when a statement is true you have to say false, and when it's false you say true. Every fib makes your nose grow towards the big red button that stops Gepetto's runaway pizza robot. Choose Challenge Mode to see how long a streak you can manage, or Battle Mode to take on the robot. It's much harder than it sounds. Read our Leaning Tower of Pizza guide for tips. Say "Alexa, open Leaning Tower of Pizza".

Leaning Tower of Pizza on an Echo Show: Pinocchio stands on a jetty in a canal-side Italian street, below the game's logo, a tower of pizzas and the evil pizza robot

Alien Customs

A very suspicious alien slug checks your luggage at Jupiter's border, one item at a time, and quizzes you on the planet's gloriously silly laws. Answer yes or no, mind your manners and get three items approved to clear customs. It's less about knowing facts and more about guessing how an alien thinks. Say "Alexa, open Alien Customs".

Alien Customs on an Echo Show: the alien customs officer holding up a pair of socks and asking 'On Jupiter, we wear socks on our hands. Will you be doing the same?' with Yes and No buttons and an approval meter

Emoji Game, Decision Time and Dad Joke Duel

On an Echo Show, Emoji Game shows a set of emoji clues and you guess the animal behind them. Decision Time asks would-you-rather questions and shows how your answer compares with the rest of the world, and Dad Joke Duel has you vote on whether each joke is funny or painful. No right answers in those two, but they scratch the same itch.

Puzzle Games for Brain Teasers

If riddles are more your thing than facts, Puzzle Games has Riddle Challenge (tricky riddles), Word Link (solve cryptic clues, then work out what links them) and Math Dash (quick fire maths questions against a 90 second clock), among ten games in one free skill. Say "Alexa, open Puzzle Games".

TV Quiz Shows on Alexa

Several TV quiz shows have official Alexa skills, made by the studios Vocala and Volley. These are the ones with thousands of ratings on Amazon.

  • Pointless: give the correct answer that the fewest of 100 people said. A Pointless answer scores nothing, and a wrong one scores the full 100. There's a new Daily Quiz every day, with Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman. Say "Alexa, open Pointless".
  • Tenable: try to name all ten answers on a top ten list before you lose your lives, with Warwick Davis commentating. Say "Alexa, open Tenable".
  • Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?: climb the money tree from $500 to $1,000,000, using your lifelines when you're stuck. New questions every day. Say "Alexa, open Who Wants to Be a Millionaire".
  • Jeopardy!: play the categories from the latest episode, with new clues every weekday read by Mayim Bialik. Say "Alexa, play Jeopardy".
  • Song Quiz: name the song and the artist from a clip, with music from the 60s to the 2010s, and challenge friends and family. Say "Alexa, open Song Quiz".
  • Deal or No Deal: less a quiz than a test of nerve. Pick a box and decide whether to take the Banker's offer, with Noel Edmonds. Free players get one game a day, and there are no real prizes. Say "Alexa, open Deal or No Deal".
  • Wheel of Fortune: spin the wheel and solve the word puzzles. It's designed for Echo Show and is only in the US store. Say "Alexa, play Wheel of Fortune".

More Trivia Games Worth Trying

  • Question of the Day (by Volley): one trivia question every day from one of six categories, and the daily game is free for everyone. A nice habit for the breakfast table. Say "Alexa, play Question of the Day".
  • Beat the Intro (by Musicplode): guess the song title and artist as fast as you can, with a daily challenge and a team mode for playing with friends. Say "Alexa, open Beat the Intro".

Tips for a Better Alexa Quiz

  • Wait for the question to finish. Alexa listens for your answer once she's stopped talking, so let her finish before you shout.
  • Ask for a repeat. Tenable, for one, understands "repeat" if you missed the question, and "more time" if you need to think.
  • Make it a team game. Quiz Games, Beat the Buzzer and Millionaire are single-player, but the whole room can confer before one person answers. Our multiplayer Alexa games post has more ways to play together.
  • Running a proper quiz night? See can Alexa do a pub quiz and our trivia game tutorial.

Mini Games is free to enable, and free players can play up to 10 games a day. If you can't stop at one more round, Unlimited Mini Games removes the daily limits.

Want something other than trivia? Our big list of games you can play with Alexa has stories, puzzles and party games too.
